LOCAL INFORMATION
Le Baradou is situated in the beautiful Jardin du Segala, about twenty minutes from St Céré and halfway between the villages of Latouille-Lentillac and Gorses, both of which are within a ten minute drive. Both these villages have a school, a Logis which serves as small hotel, restaurant and bar. There is plenty of activity and the opportunity to become involved for those who wish. This is a rural community where newcomers are made to feel welcome. Both villages have a small shop and their own Mairie. Latouille has a church and post office and Gorses has a large and modern community hall where functions are held on a regular basis.
Slightly further away, about 8km, is the larger village of Latronquiere where facilities include a small supermarket with a butchery counter, a garage, two bakers, a pharmacist, another butcher, a restaurant, a cafe and a secondary school. There is a small weekly market, usually comprising an excellent fresh fruit and vegetable stall, a fish stall and cheese stall with a wonderful variety of cheese and dairy food.
St Céré itself is a small and very French town with a large weekly market that takes up the main square and all the little squares to be found down the hidden alleys off the main Rue de Republique. It is a pretty town, with wonderful old buildings that would inspire the artist or the photographer. There are many delightful small shops, bakers/patisserie/chocolatiere, butchers, cheese and vegetables, pharmacists, boutiques, gift shops, hairdressers etc. The large supermarket, Le Clerc, is just the other side of the town and almost adjacent there is a large DIY shop and various other retail facilities.
The much larger towns of Figeac, Aurillac and Brive la Gaillarde are within easy reach.
There are regular flights to UK from Rodez which is about one and a quarter hours drive and the new airport at Brive Souillac, (Brive vallée de Dordogne) is fifty minutes away, with flights to London City.
